Welcome to my website.
Like you, I am a Bible student. Additionally, I teach university students (Azusa Pacific University, Azusa, California) how to study the Bible for themselves. It has been a most rewarding time for me to help students discover Biblical truths on their own. I invite you to take a journey with me on a personal exploration of the Bible.
This website has four purposes:
In his letter to the church at Rome, the Apostle Paul wrote this:
I appeal to you therefore, brothers and sisters, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your minds, so that you may discern what is the will of God – what is good and acceptable and perfect. (Romans 12:1-2 NRS).
I’m convinced that the renewing of the mind comes primarily through Bible study.

An Inductive Method
On this website I teach and model an inductive method of Bible study. Let me explain what I mean by an “inductive” method. The goal of Bible study is to let the Bible speak to us rather than us speaking to the Bible. We always approach the Bible with prejudices, ideas, conclusions and beliefs fairly well fixed in our minds.
Sometimes we interpret passages from the Bible in accordance with those prejudices, ideas, conclusions and beliefs, often missing the truths of Scripture. The point, however, is to allow the Bible to challenge our belief system, and where necessary, to change it. The only way we can do that is to read the Bible accurately and thoroughly, interpret it fairly, and form conclusions based on the evidence that comes from scripture itself, much like a detective examines a crime scene. Hence, the phrase, "Bible detective."
The inductive method of Bible study fosters that kind of study. The inductive method takes the scientific method (the method a scientist would use in doing research) and applies it to the study of the Bible. It looks for evidence, and forms conclusions based on that evidence. This is in opposition to a deductive approach which begins with determined premises and looks for evidence to support those premises.
On these pages, I will take you through a step-by-step procedure for doing inductive Bible study, and I will model that procedure by taking you through a book of the Bible. I would suggest you take another book of the Bible and do your own study as you go through each of the steps.
Let me caution you at the outset: Learning this method requires a high degree of patience. You will be tempted to quit. Don’t do it! You will reap immense rewards in your study that will transform your life. As I tell my university students, if you follow this method, your Bible will explode with meaning.
If you’re ready to take a life-changing journey with me, click on “Overview” at the top of this page. And may God bless you as you study His Word.
PS: Over the next few months, I will be adding video or audio clips to this website explaining in greater detail some of the more challenging aspects of this method. Watch for them.
